Marion Trieste worked with the BP Solar team to help with the introduction of the proposed Long Island Solar Farm. This entailed helping to organize an open house held at a local community center and finding ways to build partnerships with environmental organizations in the area. The Long Island Solar Farm is a unique collaboration between Long Island Power Authority (LIPA), Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), and BP Solar that will provide clean energy for Long Island residents to meet increasing power demands while protecting the local and global environment. The project will produce approximately 32 megawatts of electricity generated by solar electric panels; enough electricity to power more than 4,500 households.

Solar power will produce electricity without greenhouse gas emissions and other airborne pollutants that result from fossil fuel combustion. In fact, the annual carbon avoided from the operation of 1 acre of this solar project is equal to the annual carbon capture capability of approximately 250 acres of trees!
